Tradition: All Saints’ Day

This festivity is celebrated on 1st november, and it’s the only day in month that it’s an official festivity in Barcelona. This is a christian tradition, and it’s base is “Dia de los difuntos”  (All Saint’s Day). The legend tell us that this day, the dead people is visiting living people. For this reason, the day before, all living people goes to cemetery to visit their parents. If you want to visit one of the most importants cemeteries and his architecture, is highly recommendable not doing this on one of these days (1st, 2nd november) because are plenty of people.

Tradition: La castanyada

Another activity which is also celebrated on 1st november is la castanyada. On other post, we talked about one of the most popular and ancient traditions in Catalunya. On this day, all the family is sitting around the table to taste a typical catalonian meal like chestnuts, sweet potatoes or “panellets”.

Music: A month full of concerts and festivals

November is a special month in Barcelona in terms of music. Many concerts in all kind of genres are held in November. One of the best concerts is the International Jazz Festival, which offers shows almost every day. Masters of jazz like Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah (playing on Sunday November 27th, Conservatori del Liceu Hall), amazing blues bands like Music Maker Foundation Revue (Saturday November 12th, Luz de Gas Hall) and new stars of classic music like James Rhodes (Thursday November 10th, BARTS Hall) are some of the musicians who will perform.

World Press Photo: See the best press photos of the year

As we mentioned in the post about the best museums in Barcelona, this city is also full of art galleries. One of them will host a special exhibition: the World Press Photo. During November, at the Centre for Contemporary Culture (CCCB), you will be able to see some of the best photos of the year and images of the most important events in the world such as wars, catastrophes and protests.

One of the most important winter activities is to visit the traditional Feria de Santa Llúcia. 27th november, this fair open his gates year by year to show the typical Christmas things in Catalonia. It’s open all days until 23th of December. You can’t miss it!

To finish with, gastronomy events in Barcelona in November deserve a mention too.
