Urban routes for runners

Barcelona is full of long flat avenues lined with trees and offering shade such as streets in the city centre. That’s why many runners decide to set an urban itinerary for their exercise. One of the the favorite streets is Diagonal Avenue, the longest boulevard in Barcelona. In fact, it is more than 10 kilometers long. The Waterfront route by the Mediterranean Sea

If you don’t want to miss the chance of running along the coast and right next to the sea, just go to the Waterfront (Front Maritim in the Catalonian language). This is a new and modern area on the East side of the city where you will find plenty of open spaces suitable for runners with the Mediterranean Sea in view along your route.

Montjuic: History and sport all-in-one

Let’s imagine that you prefer more rough terrain for running, but you don’t want to travel too far from the urban areas. In that case, we suggest you to go to, a picturesque hill close to the urban centre with more challenging slopes and great views among modern and historic constructions. If you dare, you can get there by running, but if you want to use public transportation to get there, the best option is the bus (lines 150, 13 and 55), as there isn’t a Metro station on the top of the hill. At Montjuic you will also feel like a true athlete as you will discover the center of the 1992 Olympic Games: the Olympic Stadium Lluis Companys.

Barcelona trail running: Carretera de les Aigües

The amazing thing about Barcelona is that there are also great trail running routes accessible without going out of the city. In the highest areas to the north of the city and bordering on Collserola Natural Park, you will discover Carretera de les Aigües, a gentle trail path in a beautifully green environment with astonishing views of the city.
